Smash The Club Interview: Brazzabelle

Published April 9, 2014

Originally from Cave Creek, AZ, Brazzabelle began her DJ career in 2010. In just a short period of time, Brazzabelle earned prestigious residencies with many nightclubs on the west coast and has played alongside names such as Zedd, DJ Snake, Martin Solveig, Calvin Harris, Laidback Luke, Porter Robinson, Tommy Trash, and more. She has performed at some of the world’s largest stages and festivals including HARD Summer, Electric Zoo, EDC Puerto Rico, and the Mad Decent Boat Party later this year. Brazzabelle is having an even bigger year with many unreleased tracks receiving support from Martin Solveig, GTA, Mightyfools, Moska, Congorock, and Juyen Sebulba.

How did you get the name Brazzabelle?
It was brainstormed with some friends based on the Capital of the Congo which is Brazzaville, as a play off my freinds DJ name Congorock.

How did you get into DJing and producing?
I started producing on a really basic level in Middle School because one of my freinds was into it and showed me how. But then I started DJing and producing on a more professional level after studying abroad in Barcelona and being really immersed in DJ and club culture.

Who are some of your musical influences?
Oh gosh there are so many…Diplo, Alvaro, Mercer, GTA, Moska, Gregor Salto, Wiwek, Juyen Sebulba, Sander Van Doorn, Calvin Harris, DJ Snake, Congorock, Mightyfools to name a few

Who is an up-and-coming DJ/producer we should be on the lookout for?
I just did a track with and up and coming producer Shintaro Yasuda called “Borena” and I’m really excited to see more productions from him.

What are your top 3 tracks you are currently playing in your sets?
My “What Is Love” festival remix has been a huge crowd favorite recently, also the Kennedy Jones Outhere Brothers Remix of “Boom Boom Boom”, and the Sikdope remix of Rich Homie Quan – “Type Of Way”.

If you can invite any 3 DJs to tour with you, who would choose?
Wow this is hard…I always have so much fun with Martin Solveig when we play together, I’ve also been playing with Zedd a lot and he’s super fun and his sets are amazing, and I always love getting a lil ratchet with GTA and hearing how fresh their sets are.

If you did not have a career in the music industry, what would you be doing?
I used to work in Fashion before I DJ’ed full time. I ran a private label overseeing design and buying and it was my dream job so I would probably be doing that still if I weren’t DJing.

What is something many people don’t know about you?
I’m on Tinder LOL.

What do you like to do in your off-time?
Go to Disneyland, get into trouble with my friends, go brunching, play golf, kiss boys, shop, do things that are new and exciting and go on adventures.

What is in your DJ bag?
My DJ bag is my purse, theres like 20 type of lip gloss, ear plugs, SOL Republic Tracks headphones, 6 USB sticks, etc…

You will be playing at the Mad Decent Boat Party later this year, what are you looking forward to the most on the ship?
I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED. I’m really looking forward to all of it and I’m working with the masterminds at Mad Decent to put together some special events on the ship but you’ll have to wait to find what they will be ;).

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
I really have no idea…life is crazy and beautiful and I think if you just work hard and do what makes you happy you will be where you should be. If you told me 5 years ago that I would be a professional DJ I wouldn’t have believed you.

Any last words to your fans?
I love you so much and if you see me come say “Hi” and let’s #Ravercise together.
